Mulching & Wood Chipping Wollongong
Green-waste chipping on the spot from any take-down or prune job in Wollongong, plus bulk garden mulch dropped at the kerb. Hardwood rounds set aside for firewood if you want them kept.
The chipper rolls with the truck on every job, so green-waste mulching is built into the day. Branch material up to about 200mm runs straight through the drum, comes out as clean chip and gets piled wherever the chips are wanted — under existing beds, in a corner of the yard, or straight into the tipper for haul-off. That's faster, cheaper and safer than tip runs in a ute trailer, and it doesn't tie the yard up for a week of weekend visits.
Hardwood rounds — spotted gum, ironbark, blackbutt, the bigger lumps from a mature Wollongong take-down — get cut to firewood length and stacked by the fence on request. Handy for a slow combustion, a fire pit or a pizza oven once it's been seasoned a year. The softwood and the branch wood goes through the chipper.
For garden mulch where there hasn't been a take-down, bulk loads get delivered by the cubic metre across Wollongong. Fresh chip is the cheapest and works well for paths and weed suppression under established trees. Aged or composted mulch is broken down enough to feed soil in garden beds and around new plantings. Coloured mulch is available for landscaping jobs where the look matters.
Across Wollongong we see this work most often near Illawarra Escarpment State Conservation Area and out across the surrounding suburbs — rainforest and tall eucalypt forest rising directly above the city. Species we handle regularly include Illawarra Flame Tree (brachychiton acerifolius) and Sydney Blue Gum (eucalyptus saligna), each with its own pruning windows, failure modes, and council protections. Every quote we write factors in the species on site and the access route, not just the visible canopy.

Mulching & Wood Chipping FAQs
Will the chipper handle bigger branches?
Most branch material up to around 200mm clears the drum without trouble. Anything thicker than that gets cut into rounds first — the rounds either go through as a hardwood stockpile, or they're cut to firewood length and stacked, depending on what the owner wants done with them.
What's the difference between fresh chip and aged mulch?
Fresh chip is straight out of the drum — pale, sappy, slow to break down. It's good for paths, weed suppression and laying around established trees because it locks moisture in. Aged mulch has been composted for months, gone dark and crumbly, and is ready to feed soil — that's the one for garden beds and new plantings.
How much mulch do I actually need?
Roughly one cubic metre covers ten to thirteen square metres at a 75–100mm finished depth. For a typical Wollongong suburban garden bed strip along a fence line, two to three cubic metres usually does it. Ring through the rough dimensions and a load size comes back on the call.
Can the firewood rounds be split as well?
Splitting isn't part of the standard day — the crew cuts the rounds to firewood length and stacks them by the fence. A splitter or maul gets the rest done in an afternoon, and the wood is better seasoned a year before it goes on the fire anyway.
